BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT

BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT. NEUROAFFIRMING PRACTICE. LOW AROUSAL APPROACH.

Neuroaffirming practice and Low arousal approach to behaviour support. We work with people who are funded with ‘capacity building’ supports and have ‘improved relationships’ stated in their NDIS plan.

“Behaviour support is about creating individualised strategies for people with disability that are responsive to the person’s needs, in a way that reduces and eliminates the need for the use of regulated restrictive practices.” (NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission).

New Wave Therapy Behaviour support practitioners are committed to providing person centred supports for participants with complex needs and aim to improve their quality-of-life outcomes. We work closely with each individual and their support network to develop a personalized behaviour support plan the meets their unique needs. Specialising in neurodivergent clients and the complex overlay of how trauma can impact and influence a person’s experience and interaction with life.

NEURO AFFIRMING PRACTICE recognises that all children have unique strengths, interests and needs. Our focus is on creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment that celebrates the unique strengths and supports the unique needs of every child. This is rather than thinking that we need to fix a child or cure them of their neurotype.

The approach empowers the individual or team to focus on the ‘person’ in the situation, identify causes for distressed behaviour

WHAT IS THE LOW AROUSAL APPROACH?

“The Low Arousal Approach enables professionals, carers and family members to accept and manage distressed and challenging behaviours when they arise, and equips them with the tools to create systems of support around individuals to manage stress and trauma. The approach empowers the individual or team to focus on the ‘person’ in the situation, identify causes for distressed behaviour, and use proven Low Arousal skills to reduce distress and improve overall well-being”
